What causes the flu?
Influenza, or "the flu," is caused by numerous strains of the influenza virus.

Is respiratory flu the same as intestinal flu?

Flu viruses cause symptoms in the head and chest including mucus, congestion, sore throat and cough but sometimes cause intestinal symptoms for example, nausea, vomiting, so the answer is yes, the same flu virus can cause both.

The influenza virus can also cause fever, muscle aches, chills, or sweats.
