Many people are reluctant to talk about hair loss.  This is one of the many reasons why there are so many untrue myths about why we lose our hair.

Many big companies exploit hair loss myths to sell useless hair products.

Here are some untrue reasons for hair loss:

Untrue: Baldness Comes From Your Mother’s Side Only

If you are blaming your mothers grandfather for your  pattern baldness, not true. The hair loss gene does not get passed down from your mother, nor does it skip a generation.

Untrue: Only Men have Pattern Baldness

Hair loss is just as prevalent in women as  men, but the degree of loss does vary. Half of men over fifty have a problem with hair loss while only a quarter of women do, although women have far more opportunities to cover hair loss than men who mostly have short hair.

Men tend to start losing hair in the 30s and 40s, while hair loss begins in the 40s or 50s in women, though it can occur as early as the 20s.  Men tend to first lose hair in the front and  top of the head, women’s hair thins right through the hair / scalp.

Untrue: Poor Blood Flow Causes Pattern Baldness

This myth has been used to sell hair loss products for years although blood supply is excellent in the balding region - that's why hair transplant works so well.

Untrue: Pattern Baldness is Caused By Hair Mites

Untrue: Pattern Baldness is Caused By Plugged Follicles,

Untrue: Pattern Baldness is Caused By Vitamin Deficiencies

Some manufacturers claim that pattern hair loss is due to a hair mite called the demodex mite.  This supposedly can be removed with shampoos or a laser comb.
