High cholesterol is one of the contributory factors to atherosclerosis, which is the formation of fatty deposits in blood vessels. If these obstruct a blood vessel they can cause a heart attack or a stroke, so keeping the cholesterol at optimal levels is desirable. You can do a lot by having a sensible diet (eating no sugar and having the ‘right’ fats in your diet), and including lots of garlic in your cooking – or even better eating it raw. Having fresh, raw vegetables in a salad every day as well as a selection of fruit can lower your cholesterol too. If these measures are not enough, I recommend that you see a herbalist, who will advise you on specific herbs and supplements to keep your cholesterol down.
