Calories Burned Tips

  • Lose to win – Sign up for Pounds for Prizes, the 5,000lb challenge of the Weight loss challenger competition at the EFC.
  • Chill out – Drinking eight or more glasses of ice water a day may help your body burn fat, according to research.
  • Eat three meals a day – Bodybuilders have long sworn by eating every few hours to keep their muscles fueled, but don’t discount the weight loss potential of three squares a day. A study in the journal Hepatology put two groups of men on weight-gain diets. One group divided the calories among three small meals with snacks in between while the second group ate the same number of calories in three square meals. While both groups gained weight, researchers found that belly fat – the dangerous kind that increases heart-disease risk – only increased in the high-meal frequency group.
  • Sprinkle Cinnamon On Everything. – If you’ve ever read the 4-Hour Body by Tim Ferris (and if you haven’t, I highly recommend it), you probably remember the section on his cinnamon experiments. Basically, he found that eating about one and a half teaspoons of cinnamon a day can help regulate glucose levels, which in turn helps control weight gain. As a bonus, it can also actually help you feel full faster. When buying cinnamon, try and get either Saigon cinnamon or Cassia cinnamon for maximum effect. Then sprinkle it in your coffee, in your oatmeal, or even on your protein pancakes. Just don’t go overboard – Tim found that there are active substances in cinnamon that can have an adverse effect if you consume too much of it.
  • Mountain Climbers – Start in your pushup-plank position. Place your hands on the floor, stacked directly under your shoulders. Keep your hips parallel to the ground and feet back and together. Aggressively run your knees to your chest, alternating legs every rep. Make sure you keep your shoulders over your wrists and don’t let your hips raise.
