25 Ways To
Exercise When You Barely Have a Minute
--by Joan Price
You think
you don't have time to exercise? Research shows that frequent short bouts of
exercise have cumulative effects, and a bunch of fitness bursts confer almost
the same health and weight-loss benefits as one longer session. Here is just one
idea from 25 great ways you can fit many minutes of exercise into your day!
2. Stand
and Deliver. You'll feel less tired and your brain will work better if you
stand as much as possible while you work or study. Take "standing breaks" at
least every hour and work standing up, if possible, for 5-10 minutes. You'll
burn 25% more calories. Don't lean over your desk, though--find tasks that let
you stay upright, like returning phone calls, reading or jotting notes using a
clipboard. If you pace as you work, you'll burn almost four times as many
calories as sitting.

And......
Here are
some great ideas for cutting calories:
- Trade two tablespoons of regular butter for two tablespoons of light
whipped butter.
- Eat only the filling from your next piece of pie. Leave behind the crust
and 100 calories.
- Choose fruit or vegetables over higher calorie snacks (e.g., cookies,
chips).
- Choose the short stack of pancakes instead of the full stack.
Calories Burned Baseball
- Follow the low fat directions on the box when making brownies, cakes and
cookies.
- Choose low-fat turkey sausage instead of regular sausage.
- Choose fruit crepes over the higher calorie, higher fat, egg and bacon
crepe.
- Instead of drinking 2 cups of whole milk during the day, switch to fat
free milk (which still has the same amount of calcium).
Calories Burned Baseball
- Have one cup of microwave popcorn instead of 1/2 cup boxed caramel
popcorn.
- While baking, puree prunes or substitute applesauce for the oil in
recipes.
- Split a smoothie or shake with a buddy.
- With salad dressing on the side, dip salad into the dressing then into
your salad greens.
Calories Burned Baseball
- Don’t eat the dollop of butter that is served on pancakes or waffles at
your local restaurant.
- Have one less can of soda a day and cut out 100 calories.
- When you are craving something salty, have a serving of reduced fat Chex
mix rather than peanuts.
- Order a deli sandwich with sliced whole wheat bread instead of a bagel or
croissant.
Calories Burned Baseball
- In Chinese restaurants, choose stir-fried dishes rather than sweet and
sour or sesame dishes.
- Replace 8 ounces of fruit juice or soda with water.
- Try raw vegetables instead of tortilla chips with your salsa.
- Instead of two alcoholic beverages, drink one and follow with water.
More way to burn calories:
Walk or ride a bike to work
if possible. A friend of mine works two blocks from home, yet he drives to work.
If you commute and use a form of mass transit, don't depart at the nearest stop.
Get off at the previous stop and walk the rest of the way.
Park and shop. What do most of us tend to do when we go shopping? We look for a
place to park as close to the entrance as possible. Some of us are even willing
to keep driving in circles until we find that cherished spot. Why not park away
from everyone? You will find plenty of parking spaces and you will gain health
benefits by walking the extra distance. An added benefit; your car is more
likely to be spared from parking lot dings and dents.
