How Many Calories in a Pound (lb)?

Let's keep it simple.

There are 3500 calories in a pound (lb).

So if you want to lose 1lb a week here's my advice.

  • Aim to lose 2 pounds (lbs).  If you do you'll be ahead of the game.  If not you'll still be on target.
  • Aim to cut 500 calories a day with food and exercise away an extra 500 calories.  That makes 2lb a week.
  • If you have special occasions, or even regular occasion like a Sunday lunch, budget for them by doing enough exercise to 'pay' for it in calories.
  • Try small things, like every time you get out of a chair, or go to make a coffee, run on the spot for a couple of minutes.  There goes a few more calories!
  • Be incentive and find ways to bring a few seconds activity in throughout the day.  You will barely miss the time but it will make a big difference.
  • Remember, once you have revved up you metabolism for the day, it stays revved up, so the more you do and the sooner you do it, the bigger the benefit.  Pounds will soon come off if you can do this.

So, repeat after me, How Many Calories in a Pound (lb)?  There are 500 calories a day in a pound and that's not much if you focus on it!
