Easy Classic Cole Slaw Recipe

Remember grannies recipes?  If she made Classic Cole Slaw, the recipe didn’t come from some new idea made up for online ratings.  Some of these recipes have been in my family for generations.  My gran was born 1896.  If you like Easy food then we have plenty of recipes including more classic / slaw recipes.

Classic Cole Slaw Ingredients

Easy Classic Cole Slaw

  • makes 6 to 8 servings
  • 2 pounds cabbage (purple and/or green), shredded
  • 1 large carrot, coarsely grated
  • ½ cup very finely minced red onion
  • ¾ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • 1/3 cup cider vinegar
  • ¼ cup mayonnaise
  • ¼ cup plain yogurt
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons sweetener
  • Method

  • 1. Combine The Cabbage, Carrot, And Onion In A Very Large Bowl. Sprinkle With The Salt, Toss To Combine, And Set Aside.
  • 2. In A Second, Smaller Bowl, Combine The Oil, Vinegar, Mayonnaise, Yogurt, And 1 Tablespoon Of The Sweetener, And Whisk Until Smooth. Pour This Into The Cabbage Mixture, And Toss To Mix Well. Taste To See If It’S Sweet Enough For You, And If Not, Add The Other Tablespoon Of Sweetener. Transfer To A Container With A Tight-Fitting Lid, Cover, And Refrigerate. (It Will Pack Down Quite A Bit.) Serve Cold.
