Ginger-Papaya Relish Recipe


Makes about 2 cups

  • 1 large papaya, peeled, seeded and cut into 1/4-inch dice
  • 1 small red onion, finely minced
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  • pinch salt
  • 1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon black mustard seeds


  1. In a large bowl, combine the papaya, onion, ginger and salt and set aside
  2. In a small skillet, heat the oil over medium heat
  3. Add the mustard seeds and cook a few seconds until they pop, then stir into the relish
  4. If not serving right away, cover and refrigerate until needed
  5. This relish is best if served on the same day it is made
