Portuguese Malassadas

  • 4 c. flour
  • 4-5 eggs
  • 1 tbsp. margarine
  • 1 tbsp. Crisco
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 env. dry yeast
  • 3 tbsp. sugar
  • 1 c. milk
  • Method

  • Beat eggs and salt.
  • Put flour in pan.
  • Make hole in center of flour.
  • Warm milk to lukewarm, mix in yeast and mix well with dry ingredients.
  • Put in warm place to rise.
  • Fry pieces of dough in hot vegetable oil.
  • Once cool, place 2 at a time in paper bag with granulated sugar.
  • To fry, have a bowl of warm water to dip your hands.
  • Gather a ball of dough.
  • Spread it and make a hole in dough before putting in oil.
