Vegan Marinara Sauce Recipe


Makes about 31/2 cups

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 3 garlic cloves, crushed
  • 1 (28-ounce) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tablespoon minced fresh basil or 1 teaspoon dried
  • ¾ teaspoon minced fresh oregano or 1/2 teaspoon dried
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • pinch sugar
  • 2 bay leaves


  1. In a large saucepan, heat the oil over medium heat
  2. Add the garlic and cook until fragrant, about 30seconds
  3. Add the tomatoes, basil, oregano, salt, pepper, sugar and bay leaves
  4. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally
  5. Remove and discard the garlic cloves and bay leaves before serving
