Yoga for Flexibility

Unlike strength, flexibility focuses more on the stretching aspect, such as holding a yoga asana or a challenging pose for extended period of time. It can be developed to a certain extent in everyone although older people and those with injury should take precautions to prevent further injury while stretching. Joint stiffness is one of the most common restrictions that can be improved or eradicated with frequent gentle stretching exercises. However, mobility and flexibility aren’t the only factors that are essential to a healthy and safe yoga practice.

Proper alignment is just as important. Some yoga styles require more mobility and flexibility than others and this is where you may find the limits of your own mobility and flexibility. Building up flexibility and strength takes time, so it’s important to build up slowly to a regular yoga practice.
