Blushing Tomato Bread Recipe

Ingredients

Serving Size : 8

  • 1/2 Cup Warm Water
  • 1/4 Cup Sugar
  • 1 Teaspoon Sugar
  • 1/4 Teaspoon Ground Ginger
  • 2 Packages Active Dry Yeast
  • 1 1/2 Cups Tomato Juice – warmed
  • 6 Cups Unshifted Flour
  • 1/4 Cup Butter – softened
  • 1 Teaspoon Salt

Method

  1. In small bowl, combine water, 1 tsp sugar, ginger and yeast.
  2. Let stand until bubbly.
  3. In large bowl, combine tomato juice, 1/4 cup sugar and 2 cups flour.
  4. Add yeast mixture; beat well.
  5. Stir in butter and salt.
  6. Add 3 cups flour; stir until thoroughly blended.
  7. Stir in remaining flour.
  8. Turn dough onto well-floured board; knead until smooth and satiny.
  9. Return dough to bowl; brush top with butter.
  10. Cover and let rise 30 to 40 minutes, or until doubled.
  11. Punch down; divide in half
  12. Shape into two 14″ loaves.
  13. Place on greased baking sheets.
  14. Cut diagonal slashes on top.
  15. Brush with butter; cover and let rise again until doubled.
  16. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  17. Bake 40 to 50 minutes, or until lightly browned.
  18. Transfer loaves to wire racks.
  19. Cool.
  20. Makes 2 loaves bread.
