Air Fryer BBQ Chicken Easy Recipe

Air Fryer BBQ Chicken 1 good portion

This is a very easy and versatile recipe. Hard to mess up with tender chicken every time.


SERVES 1 to 2.

  • 1 large or 2 medium skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 cup marinade
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder *optional
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder *optional
  • 1 tbsp oil


Equal parts of vinegar, sugar, Ketchup or BBQ Sauce

  • vinegar-lemon-balsamic
  • white sugar, brown or honey
  • Any sauce combination you like

Nothing needs to be exact, it’s very much to your personal taste


  1. Place chicken pieces in large bowl with marinade and garlic/chili over them
  2. Chill for anything from 2 hours to 2 days
  3. At this point you can optionally add chunks of mushrooms, onions or peppers if you like *
  4. Drain the marinade. You can reduce and keep it for sauce or basting if you like but don’t be tempted to cook the chicken in it.
  5. Add oil and turn till everything coated
  6. If you like sticky chicken add a little marinade put aside before adding vinegar. Its thicker and sweeter!
  7. Preheat the air fryer to maximum heat
  8. Place in a single layer into the preheated air fryer basket
  9. Cook for 15 to 20 minutes *
  10. Add cherry tomato part way through when turning (optional)
  11. Serve warm

* Add carrots at the start of marinading, peppers, mushrooms, tomatoes or onions at the end of the marinade. This helps to ensure even cooking.

* These are very tender so will take a bit of extra cooking to go brown of crunchy

* If you want to reduce the marinade, you might like to add it over the chicken a few minutes before the end.
