Crock Pot Picante Chicken Slow Cooker Recipe


  • refrigerated butter-flavored cooking spray.
  • 1/2-lb frying chicken, cut into 10 pieces, skin removed and discarded
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 1 medium green bell pepper, seeded and diced
  • 3 large cloves garlic, minced
  • sprigs fresh thyme or 1/2 tsp crushed dried thyme
  • 1 to 2 1/2 tsps curry powder
  • 1/2-oz can no-salt- added diced tomatoes
  • 1 tsp celery flakes
  • 1 packet sugar substitute that will retain sweetness during long cooking
  • 2 tsps white wine vinegar
  • 2 Tbsps currants


  1. Take a frying pan and use spray oil to coat it
  2. Place the chicken in and fry for 5mins each side
  3. In the 4 quart crock pot, add the onion, bell pepper, and garlic
  4. Place the golden chicken on top, with the thyme sprigs
  5. Use a bowl and blend together, the curry powder, tomatoes, celery flakes, sugar sub and wine vinegar
  6. Tip this mix over the chicken, and add the currants, do not stir
  7. Place the lid on and cook for 7hrs on low, or 3hrs on high
  8. Finish with rice
