Crock Pot Mandarin Orange Chicken Slow Cooker Recipe


For the chicken:

  • 6 chicken thighs
  • 1 tbsp Chinese Five Spice Powder
  • 1/2 tsp kosher salt

For the sauce:

  • 1 cup no sugar added mandarin orange slices
  • 1 tsp minced garlic
  • 1 tbsp minced ginger
  • 1/2 tsp sliced red chilis or red
  • pepper flakes
  • 1 tbsp lime juice 1 tbsp granulated sugar substitute 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 2 tbsp fish sauce


  1. Season the chicken pieces with the salt and five spice powder
  2. Place the pieces with skin side down on a heated skillet and allow to brown for about 3-4 minutes
  3. Flip over the pieces and leave for another 3-4 minutes
  4. Insert the browned pieces into the crock pot, with skin side facing upwards
  5. Mix all other ingredients except for the gum in a bowl
  6. Pour over the meat and cook for 4 hours on High or 6 hours on low
  7. Transfer the cooked chicken pieces into a platter
  8. Place the balance sauce into a blender, toss in ½ tsp gum and process for 20-25 seconds
  9. Pour over the cooked chicken pieces and garnish with cilantro if required
